I almost forgot about my family of Lima beans from Northcote! Northcote is a wonderful suburb in Northern Melbourne and consists of many creative types, hipsters and notably young organic families that wear crocs and severely rimmed glasses. I notice I had not showcased this on my blog so here it is. This is part of my Melbourne Fruits series.
The Peanuts at Disneyland were just a product of amusing thought I had one day. A family vacation, which is supposed to be relaxing and fun can often  (and mostly) end up being quite trying and drag on with nagging kids and stressed out adults. I assume it would be much the same for peanut families in peanut land.

Just a couple of quickies from me. No I'm not being dirty. I have multiple projects on the go but at the moment I feel like I'm exploring a lot of ideas rather than just settling into one piece. Ink, water colour, books, fabric, and thread are consuming my brain and hands. I don't think I have consciously created a 'final' piece of work lately, however I'm creating more in a day than I ever have. It has mostly been experimentation with a majority being spontaneously created, lots of little pieces. However I do have some great ideas for a new body of work lurking around the corner... More on that soon. 

Lately it's just been so fluid and relaxed. I kind of like that.

Isn't it utterly delicious when you get to create something foul, ugly or just a little off? There is something so satisfying about perfecting a foul creature or ruining the promise of a 'pretty' piece. Don't get me wrong, I like many others delight in creating beautiful things but love the other end of the spectrum, too. It's almost like you are breaking free and rebelling against the rules. The lovely ladies above are a product of my frustration whilst trying to create pretty images. The ugly in me has come out. And I like it.

Back to the book paper. There is something nice about working on book paper, it seems to come together quite naturally. I've also been working with a bit of collage and sewing lately.

My ongoing theme of fruits and vegetables is far from finished. My first dabble in water colour for this theme; however this genre is always most certainly quite spontaneous and whimsical for me. It makes a lot of fun as I never quite know what to expect at the end, and I always have a little chuckle as their personality comes to life. I am currently working on more pieces for my Melbourne Fruits project, so stay tuned for more strange fruit.

150 Years of Bathing

It has been a long time coming indeed. I have disappeared for the last few months but am back to showcase a variety of projects that have been keeping me rather busy.

Firstly is this short stop-motion animation created for the Melbourne City Baths to help celebrate their 150th anniversary. 150 years of Bathing is a rather playful animation highlighting the history of bathing in Melbourne, Australia. Alongside amazing entertainment by the Footscray Women's Circus it was shown at the Melbourne city baths during anniversary celebrations.

My first stop motion animation, and I must say although a bit wonky I am rather proud of this effort! It took a lot of sleepless nights, patience and helping hands. Created with simple cardboard cut outs on beautifully photographed backgrounds by Jessie Boylan and directed/produced by the amazingly talented Suzi Taylor of Fingerprint Productions.
